Scroll Studio Contributor Licence Agreement

Version 1.0

Thank you for contributing to Scroll Studio. This agreement makes clear the rights you grant in your contributions, so that Scroll Studio can be released as free software under the GNU AGPL-3.0 and also offered in other forms, such as a hosted service. You keep the copyright in your contributions; this agreement is a licence, not a transfer.

You sign it once, by commenting on your first pull request with the sentence the bot gives you. It then covers every contribution you make to the project.

1. Definitions

  • "You" means the person, or the legal entity on whose behalf that person is authorised to act, who signs this agreement.
  • "Maintainer" means Edeki Okoh, the owner of the Scroll Studio project at https://github.com/Okohedeki/scroll-studio, and any successor to whom the project is transferred.
  • "Contribution" means any work of authorship (code, templates, styles, documentation, research, images, designs or other material) that You submit to the Maintainer for inclusion in Scroll Studio, by pull request, patch, issue, comment or any other means, unless You mark it in writing as "Not a Contribution".

You grant the Maintainer, and recipients of software distributed by the Maintainer, a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable licence to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense and distribute Your Contributions and such derivative works, under any licence terms, including the GNU AGPL-3.0 with the Scroll Studio additional terms and other licences, open or proprietary, and to use them in any product or service, including hosted services.

3. Patent licence

You grant the Maintainer, and recipients of software distributed by the Maintainer, a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable patent licence to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import and otherwise transfer Your Contributions, where the licence applies only to patent claims licensable by You that are necessarily infringed by Your Contribution alone or by its combination with Scroll Studio. If anyone institutes patent litigation alleging that Scroll Studio or a Contribution infringes a patent, the patent licences granted to that party under this agreement end on the date the litigation is filed.

4. Your promises

You represent that:

  1. Each Contribution is Your original creation, or You have the right to submit it under this agreement. Where a Contribution includes work by others (a library, an image, a model, text), You say so in the pull request, with its source and licence, and it is compatible with the AGPL-3.0.
  2. You are legally entitled to grant these licences. If Your employer or another party has rights in what You create, You have its permission to make Contributions on its behalf, or it has waived those rights.
  3. Your Contributions do not, to Your knowledge, include anything that infringes another person's rights, and no Contribution contains credentials, private data or material You may not publish.

You will tell the Maintainer if any of these stop being true.

5. Moral rights

To the extent the law allows, You waive, or agree not to assert, any moral rights in Your Contributions against the Maintainer and recipients who use them under this agreement. Attribution in the project's history and notices is kept.

6. No obligation, no warranty

The Maintainer is not obliged to use any Contribution. Unless You agree otherwise in writing, You provide Your Contributions "as is", without warranties or conditions of any kind, and You are not expected to provide support for them.

7. The project stays free software

Whatever else the Maintainer does with Contributions, every version of Scroll Studio the Maintainer publishes as open source remains available under the GNU AGPL-3.0 (with the additional terms in NOTICE.md), and Your Contributions in it stay available under those terms.

8. General

This agreement is the complete agreement between You and the Maintainer about Your Contributions. If any part of it is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. The Maintainer may publish later versions of this agreement for future contributions; Contributions You already made remain under the version You signed.
